BMW would not replace the gearbox, we where charged $5497.01 even though it is a known problem.(wish we knew about it before we purchased) We were informed that this was guaranteed never to happen again!! The noise appears to be in the column and clicks and catches when It could be a central locking fuse. Look in your manual and/or fuse card in upper glove box to see witch fuse you need to check. you might also pull the central locking switch and check its' function and connector on bottom. If someone spilled a liquid on it, it could be shorting or not working. Open INPA>>choose chassis>>Transmission>>Gearbox Control module>>Identification (F2). now press arrow down on your keyboard and take note of your Assembly number. Close INPA. 4. Open winKFP>>Comfort mode>>Enter ZUSB and Enter the assembly number.>> Take note of your ECU family. 5. Does the e53 have some sort of temperature sensor in the tranny? (2006 4.4i x5). I am having some issues shifting from 1st to 2nd ONLY when she first starts up. The behavior below leads me to believe it has something to do with the Transmission initializing or coming up to temp, because it shift fine after the first few starts and stops. 1.

Bmw x5 e53 transmission slipping. My 2001 x5 seems to have a problem suddenly with the reverse gear. It's the 4.4 V8 automatic. When I select the reverse gear it seems like it's slipping and then I get like a thud and it slams into gear. I already changed the fluid and filter and that didn't make a difference.
admranger. You don't fill through that, you fill through the big hole in the bottom of the pan if your transmission is like mine. There is a big plastic cylinder that goes up into the pan. You pump the fluid into the pan and when it flows out (at the specified temperature range), it's full.
